CLEAN-UP CONTINUES IN THE TIMOR SEA

3 September 2009

The vessel Lady Gerda will be providing dispersant spraying on the oil that has leaked from the Montara well head platform today.

AMSA continues a staged approach to the management of the clean-up. Two vessels arrived on scene today to undertake containment and recovery operations using boom and skimming equipment.

Our primary focus is to contain and recover the oil and to use dispersants to enhance the natural weathering process, thereby preventing the oil from moving into sensitive areas such as Ashmore Reef.

The attached diagram provides an overview of the behaviour of the oil that has been observed on a daily basis, and the main area of operations.

AMSA’s liaison with both Federal and State agencies, including oil and environmental specialists with regard to the clean-up operation remains ongoing
